U.S. Open

The U.S. Open begins Thursday morning from beautiful Torrey Pines South Course in LaJolla, California. Wednesday was a near perfect weather day with sunny skies and the temperature was in the 60's. There was a huge gallery on hand.

I planned to meet Dr. Dick Coop at the practice green at 11:30. The problem with that plan is that Tiger Woods walked onto the practice green at 11:20. When he appeared it seemed as though half of the fans at Torrey Pines showed up and clogged the pathways around the green where there was no movement. Cameras, which are allowed on practice days, were snapping pictures from every angle possible. It was difficult to Find Dr. Coop. We both emerged from the crowd at about the same time.

I will be following Lee Janzen for 9 holes Thursday and Ben Crane for 9 holes. They both tee off Thursday morning. Lee is playing in the group right behind Tiger, Phil Mickelson, and Adam Scott. I am so glad he is right behind instead of being right ahead of this group. The stampede of people would be too much. The predictions are that this threesome will have more spectators following them than any pairing in golf history.

We had dinner with Lee and Bev Janzen tonight. It still interesting to see how many people want Lee's autograph or picture taken with him when he goes out to eat. He is looking forward to this tournament, having finished tied for 13th last year and holding two U.S. Open victories.
Lee really likes the setup of the golf course and thinks it is going to be a great tournament.

Stay tuned..............

Thanks for giving us an inside look at a major event. How cool is that to hang out with Lee Janzen at the 108th US Open?

Best of luck to Lee and Ben in Friday's round.
